Hi, my name is Robin Smith, and I am the founder of Surge Academy. I have always had a passion for anything dealing with creativity and the arts. In fact, my own career path was fueled by the opportunities that I had in my youth to learn about the digital arts in a hands-on environment, through summer camps, afterschool programs, and even through my church ministries. I ended up getting my B.S. in Music Engineering Technology from Hampton University, and later, an M.A. in Communication from Regent University with a focus on Editing for Film & TV, and finally my MFA in Art & Technology from Goucher College.
I think all youth should have these opportunities. I have seen the affect that digital literacy and having skills in technology can have on a person’s quality of life. I created Surge Academy so that any student, regardless of where they live, can have access to courses that allow them to learn about digital technology in fun and creative ways.
Part of the proceeds from the courses taught online help me to provide in-person workshops & camps at nonprofit youth centers. I would love to see communities transformed and uplifted by having residents that understand the power of digital technology in the 21st century and use it to makes the lives of everyone around them better.
I have created courses in video game design, mobile app development, coding, and web design, and I’m always getting ideas for new courses. I oversee every course, which includes weekly, live Q&A sessions, as well as personalized feedback on each assignment.
Check out the website and learn more about the courses that are open right now. If you see a course that you’re interested in that isn’t open yet or full, just click the “Notify Me” button next to the course and I’ll send you an email when that course is open for enrollment. Or you can always email us email@example.com if you have a course that you’d like to see offered at Surge Academy.
I hope to see you in class!
